The challenge
European transport policies rely on accurate, harmonised and timely statistics across all transport modes (air, maritime, inland waterways, road and rail transport). However, the increasing complexity of legal requirements, data volumes and reporting obligations created challenges in data consistency, quality control and system interoperability.
The solution
Artemis supported Eurostat across the entire transport statistics data lifecycle. This included data collection and dissemination, development and maintenance of information systems, database management, data quality control, methodological work and statistical analysis. The work ensured compliance with EU regulations and supported policy evaluation needs.
The outcome
The project contributed to more consistent, timely and policy-relevant transport statistics across all modes, supporting the evaluation of EU transport policies. Artemis delivered 6,540 expert work-days within 4 years, ensuring continuity of operations and methodological robustness over several years. This long-term support strengthened Eurostat’s capacity to manage complex transport datasets and comply with evolving legal requirements.
